TO THE EDITOR:
I am writing in response to the article "Marriage threatened again at State House" published on May 21. I want to commend the Rhode Island Catholic on this story and highlighting the excellent arguments against same-sex marriage made by those such as Fathers John Codega and Bernard Healey, Attorney Joseph Cavanagh, and Dr. Daniel Harrop. I am grateful that the leadership of this state has also taken a stance against this redefinition of traditional marriage.
As Catholic citizens, we need to also take a stand and use information like what was presented in this article to educate others and counteract the misinformation spread by those who threaten the sacred institution of marriage.
I was also glad to see the small article clarifying the status of Jakob Thibault and the Old Catholic Church. I am sure there were many others like myself who first thought he was a Roman Catholic religious but then were surprised when he testified for same sex marriage. This was just another attempt at misinformation to undermine the Church's teaching against gay marriage.
Thank you again to the Rhode Island Catholic for the great coverage on this important issue.
