To the Editor:
Thank you for your continual coverage of the hearings coming before the House Judiciary Committee regarding marriage. The front page article in the May 21 Rhode Island Catholic was extensive and outlined in detail the bills and their sponsors, which were before the committee in the current session.
Bill 5068, sponsored by Representatives Jon Brien, Nicholas Mattiello, John Savage and Rene Menard would empower the citizens of Rhode Island with the right to determine by a vote, the question whether to limit marriage to a lawful union between one man and one woman.
Redefining the definition of marriage would create far too many sociologic changes and the affects of the outcome would be too numerous, to leave such a decision in the hands of so few.
