Peregrine was born in Forili, Italy to wealthy parents. He was active in his youth in the anti-papal movement, but after an encounter with St. Philip Benizi, he changed his ways. He joined the Servites of Siena and was eventually ordained and returned to Forili to establish a new Servite house, where he lived until his death. Peregrine became famous for his preaching, simple lifestyle and holiness, and was also well-known for being a wonderful confessor. His fame spread when he was miraculously cured of an advanced form of cancer of the foot after he had a vision. He was canonized in 1726 and is the patron saint of cancer patients.
