PROVIDENCE – The newly-renovated Capriccio restaurant served as a backdrop Nov. 13, as nearly 100 people gathered to benefit the Bread of Life School Consortium, an initiative of the Diocese of Providence.
The event, co-chaired by Amir and Pamela Jourabchi and Bill and Susan Cesare, netted $6,200 to assist the inner city Catholic schools endeavor.
The consortium of seven inner-city schools includes Providence’s Bishop McVinney School, St. Ann School, St. Patrick School, Holy Ghost School, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton in Central Falls, St. Mary School in Pawtucket and West Warwick’s Christ the Redeemer School. The mission of the consortium, in part, is to revitalize urban Catholic education and provide educational opportunities that serve a diverse population in a faithful and nurturing environment.
Steve Raymond, principal of St. Patrick’s School on Smith Hill, said, “It is wonderful that people recognize and support the efforts of our Diocese to keep urban Catholic education available. As a principal of an inner city school, I am touched by the generosity of the people in this room.”
Nadia Jourabchi, LaSalle freshman, was present to lend a hand for the evening’s events. “It is very important to make a valuable Catholic education available to all who want one. I give my time gladly,” she said.
Sheila Durante, superintendent of the Diocese of Providence Catholic School Office, voiced her gratitude to the gathering.“ Thank you so much for support of this initiative, it is people like you that identify the value of maintaining inner city Catholic education, and we are so grateful for your generous support.”
